Estefans Turn To Broadway To Tell Life Story

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - If you watched the Tony Awards on CBS4, you saw South Florida's own Gloria and Emilio Estefan on stage presenting an award for the first time.

The Estefans could find themselves back on stage at an upcoming Tony Awards for a much bigger honor next year – and that is, actually receiving one.

Gloria and Emilio Estefan are Miami's favorite power couple with the Midas touch. Their musical marriage is a story to tell and now it's being told on Broadway in a musical called 'Get on Your Feet.'

One of the biggest things in Emilio's career right now is the Broadway show that tells his life story.

"I think it is the icing on the cake, I mean when we read the book last weekend, you know it was very emotional for me and Gloria, I can tell you that," said Emilio."I think the way the structure is, it's about dreams, it's about minorities, it's about coming to the best country in the world and going through a lot of things in your life to make things happen."

The production will tell the tale of the Estefan's' journey from arriving in the U.S. to how they became international music stars. They put the 'c' in crossover, igniting the careers of some of the hottest Latino stars working today, like J-Lo, Ricky Martin, and Shakira.

A part of the musical even shows the time when the couple played the bar mitzvahs and the weddings.

"It's everything there. I don't want to give you a lot, but you know something you are going to see the three Gloria's and one Emilio, which is good because it would be hard to find somebody like me," said Emilio.

The musical will feature Gloria's greatest hits, including "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You," "1-2-3," "Conga," and "Get On Your Feet".

"Think we have a story tell. I think it is a perfect time, especially for the minorities, you know people that have dreams; people need to realize that we live in the best country in the world," said Emilio,

The musical will premiere in Chicago in the fall 2015 before hitting the great white way.
