"Kimye" Wedding Pastor: "It's Just An Honor To Be A Part Of It"

MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) - The South Florida pastor who performed Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding ceremony is back at his home church in Miami Gardens.

On Tuesday night, he delivered a sermon to a packed house of young adult worshipers at Trinity Church, where he originally met "Kimye" two years ago.

"This is a church that's for all people, from the nameless to the famous, and they came to church, and we became friends," Pastor Rich Wilkerson, Jr. told CBS4's Lauren Pastrana. "I know it sounds kind of crazy, but that's really how simple it is."

When it came time for Kim and Kanye to tie the knot, they turned to their pal Wilkerson.

He traveled to Europe to be part of the festivities last month, which included a lavish ceremony in Florence, Italy.

"It's always fun to do weddings, but of course this wedding was extra special because they're really good friends of mine," Wilkerson said. "The whole thing was absolutely phenomenal and I just wish them all the best."

Most of the parishioners had no idea what he was up to overseas until they saw a photo of Wilkerson, his wife Dawnchere, and the newlyweds on Instagram.

"He's a very private person, if you go to him for counseling, he will keep it very private. So that part didn't surprise me," church member May Rivera said. "But Kim and Kanye? That part was surprising!"

Church-goer Bennett Johnson said he looks up to Pastor Rich Jr. as a role model.

"I think it's pretty cool that he can be a light to so many high level people and shine the light of Jesus to those people. It's pretty cool," Johnson said.

The 30-year-old preacher says he's been blown away by all the attention he's received, including comparisons to celebrities like Leonardo Dicaprio and Brad Pitt.

While he graciously accepts the compliments on his Hollywood looks, he quickly shifts the focus back to the happy couple.

Wilkerson wouldn't dish on the details of the big day, but calls the "Kimye" union, "inspiring".

"I think the big thing people should take away from it as that 2 people were really, really in love. And two people are really committed to one another," Wilkerson said. "Walking away I felt really, really inspired. It's just an honor to be a part of it."

Kim and Kanye's nuptials probably won't be Wilkerson's only celebrity wedding. His best friend is E! News Host and South Florida native Jason Kennedy.

Kennedy just proposed to his girlfriend, fashion journalist Lauren Scruggs, last week.

You can catch Wilkerson's sermons every Tuesday night at 7:30 at a gathering called "The Rendezvous" at Trinity Church in Miami Gardens. His father leads services there on Sundays.
