Burglary Call Leads To Body In Oakland Park Apartment

OAKLAND PARK (CBSMiami) - A call about a burglary in progress led Broward Sheriff's deputies to a woman's body inside an Oakland Park apartment.

Around 3:30 a.m., the sheriff's office received a call about the burglary at the Bridgewater Apartments at 2800 NW 44th Street but did not give an exact location.

"Deputies knew someone was in trouble somwhere, we did have that 9-1-1 call of the burglary in progress so the responded immediately and just began searching," said sheriff's office spokeswoman Dani Moschella.

During that search of the gated complex they found a unit that appeared to have been broken into.

"They found an open sliding glass door, they called inside and received no answer from any resident. So they went into the apartment and conducted a search and inside they found the body of an adult female who had been killed," said Moschella.

The sheriff's office has not released the woman's name.

Residents of the complex were shocked when they heard about what had happened. Danielle Hoover said her sister heard a loud noise in the middle of the night and wondered if it was related to the woman's murder.

"She was sleeping, she woke up, she heard a bang and just didn't think anything of it because there's a lot of activity that goes on here, so she went back to sleep," said Hoover.

"Oh my God!  Oh my God!  It's always something in this complex," said Shirley Myrick.

"I've been here for 14 years, it's time for me to go now. I've been here from the beginning," said Therese Brown.

Investigators have not said if anything was taken from the apartment or how the woman died.
