MPD: 18-Year-Old Shot In Buttocks In Front Of Hooters

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A late afternoon shooting in Miami sent one man to the hospital Monday.

Police said the man was shot in the back in the middle of SW 22 Street (Coral Way) near the 3300 block.

The 18-year-old man was reportedly crossing SW 34th Avenue when a car turning onto Coral Way approached him with several people inside.

"The driver and the victim exchanged some words shortly after, walked away and the passenger from the vehicle put the window down and shot him on his buttocks, said Officer Rene Pimentel.

"I thought it was a tire," said Katherine Dominguez when she heard the gunshot.

Dominguez said the manager of Hooters ran across the street and brought the injured man toward the restaurant to help him.

"They got the towel and just put it on his butt and they called police and they came," said Dominguez.

The man who was shot was rushed to the hospital while police began their investigation.

"By the time I got here, there were a few squad cars including the sergeant, they had a couple triangles squared off," said a man who did not want to give his name. "One I'm guessing was where the victim was and the other where the shot was coming from."

East bound Coral Way was closed due to the investigation.

Neighbors and officers said it's rare to see a crime in the area that is filled with restaurants and stores.

"Very unusual. This is a very quiet area and it's not the norm at all," said Pimentel.
