FLL Resumes Normal Operations After Severed Cable Causes Chaos

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – JetBlue ticket holders may experience some flight delays at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Thursday due a data outage Wednesday night.

Airport spokesman Greg Meyer said a contractor cut a fiber optic line which knocked out a main data feed.

Around 6:45 p.m. the airport posted on its Twitter page "FLL is experiencing significant communications issues with internet and telephone access causing flight delays and cancellations."

Because of the outage, JetBlue was forced to cancel several international flights.

Around 7:30 p.m. the airport tweeted out "The source of the data problem has been identified and is being repaired. Passengers are getting free water." They also posted a picture of passengers in line receiving water.

A little over two hours later, airport officials posted on Twitter "As of approximately 8:45 this evening phone and data connectivity to the airport was restored. Flight schedules are returning to normal."
