Police Identify Victim Of North Miami Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Police are investigating a deadly overnight shooting in North Miami.

The shooting happened around 1:30 AM when police say Sidney Fertil, 38, was returning home to the area of NW 13th Avenue and 127th Street.

Investigators say Fertil was sitting in a car when he was shot multiple times.

Gerald Joseph, a resident in the neighborhood, was in bed when he heard the shots.

"I was laying down and hear five bullet shots then I heard another three went off," said Joseph.

Crime scene investigators surrounded the car and marked at least 10 bullet holes on the driver's door. They also gathered evidence in and around the vehicle parked outside of a home in a neighborhood residents say is usually a quiet and peaceful place.

"I am shocked because this is the first time this happened—it's quiet," said Santina Pegihomme, a neighbor.

Dedra Booker also lives in the area said she was startled when she heard gunshot ring out.

"I heard five or more gunshots go off and seconds later I heard a horn, as if somebody's head had landed on a horn," said Booker. "I heard a women, she was pretty distant, not too distant, but she was just saying 'he's dead, he's dead'. I didn't hear another voice or who she was telling that to but that's all I kept hearing her say over and over and crying."

Police have not released the person's name or given a motive for the shooting.
