Investigation Continues Into Deadly Dania Beach Accident

DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) - Broward Sheriff's traffic homicide detectives said it's too soon to say if charges will be filed against a Dania Beach man who accidentally struck and killed a four year old boy.

Investigators said Xavier Crawford was riding a Razor style scooter when his neighbor, 52-year old Michael Reshick, hit him Saturday afternoon as he backed out of a shared driveway in front of his residence at 4712 SW 33rd Avenue.

Neighbors said the 4-year-old was following his big brother home when Reshick hit him. They added Reshick was backing out of the parking space slowing and cautiously when Crawford went behind him.

Crawford was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 2:30 p.m.

A spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's Office, Gina Carter, said drivers can never be too careful.

"Obviously, when you're pulling out of your drive way, that's one of the most dangerous spots. Whether it's your drive way or one that leads immediately into a street, you really need to watch out. Make sure that you've looked and that there are no children," said Carter.

Reshick immediately stopped when he realized what happened. He is cooperating with investigators.

Parents in the neighborhood pleaded for drivers to always think about children.

"You never know if there's a rolling ball, there's a kid right behind it," said Bernise Davis, a mother who lives in the neighborhood.
