Sawgrass Expressway To Stop Accepting Cash Saturday

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Drivers on the Sawgrass Expressway will have to use their change elsewhere. Starting Saturday night the expressway will stop accepting cash.

Toll booths are closing for good.

According to the Sun Sentinel, by 6:00 a.m. Sunday, all drivers will be paying the tolls electronically.

Drivers who have a SunPass will be charged on their account. Those who don’t will be billed by plate meaning a system will capture a picture of their plate and bill them later.

Crews are expected to make sure the overnight transition goes smoothly.

The next toll plaza’s expected to switch to electronic tolling are the plazas at Sun Life Stadium, Hollywood and Griffin Road.
