Orange Shoes Could Be Key To Solving Postal Holdup
South Florida Crime
LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) –A distinctive pair of orange sneakers could be the key to help solve the case of a postal carrier, robbed at gunpoint, for her set of master mailbox keys Monday.
U.S. Postal Inspectors said the keys can be used to open a variety of block style mail boxes.
Once someone has access, mail can be stolen putting postal customers at risk of identity theft and tax fraud.
“They look for anything of value or cash cards that they can cash in somewhere else,” said Postal Inspector Blanca Alavarez.
It happened at the Continental Apartments at 1761 NW 46 Avenue in Lauderhill.
The man they are looking for is described as white, 5’10, medium build, with short-cropped, dark hair.
He was seen on surveillance video from the complex wearing a bright orange t-shirt and bright orange shoes.
A short time later, he’s seen returning in a dark hoodie to cover his orange t-shirt.
Just after 5:00 p.m., Postal Inspectors said he pulled a gun on a mail carrier who was delivering the day’s mail and demanded her master keys.
“I know the mail lady,” said resident Marta Hernandez. “She’s such a nice lady.”
Postal Inspectors passed out fliers in the neighborhood advertising an up to $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Contact the US Postal Inspectors at 954-436-7200.
