Prescribed Burn Scheduled For Everglades National Park

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Everglades National Park will conduct a prescribed burn on Monday morning.

The 1,007 acre burn is scheduled to start at 7: 00 a.m.

The burn will occur near the Daniel Beard and Robertson Buildings, south of Research Road; 3 miles south, southwest of the Royal Palm Visitor's Center and north and east of the historic Nike Missile Base.

During the fire operations, the Nike Missile Base tour will continue with limited access to the actual site.

The prescribed burn is part of the Hole in the Donut restoration process.

According to the National Park service,  the goal of the burn is, "hazardous fuel reduction, and is a part of the long term project to permanently remove Brazilian pepper from the area."
