Biscayne Park Police Chief Resigns

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Biscayne Park's police chief has resigned after he had been relieved of duty pending an investigation into possible official misconduct.

In a weekly report by Village Manager Heidi Shafran, she stated Ray Atesiano had resigned his position as Police Chief.

The report went on to wish him well on his next steps in his career.

Shafran said, in the report, Officer Thomas "Tommy" Harrison is the officer in charge while they are evaluating interim police chiefs.

According to our news partners the Miami Herald, Shafran suspended Atesiano, Capt. Lawrence Churchman and Cpl. Nicholas Wollschlager two weeks ago.

Commissioners told CBS4 they've been advised to say nothing about the matter, but Commissioner Bob Anderson did confirm an outside investigator has been hired to look into the allegations.

Shafran declined CBS4's requests for an interview, instead providing a statement saying, "The village administration is committed to the safety of our community. We appreciate our police officers added effort as they continue to keep our community safe."
