Good Samaritans Take Down Alleged Purse Snatcher

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Good Samaritans helped take down an alleged purse snatcher as he ran away from the victim.

The victim said she walked past a man at NE 82nd Street and NE 3rd Avenue Sunday afternoon and then felt her purse get pulled from her shoulder.  During the incident, a Miami Police report said she fell to the ground and began yelling for help.

Witnesses saw the woman needing help and the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old William Shuford, running away from the scene.

One man said he stopped his car and told Shuford to give the purse back, but he refused and kept running. The man said he got out of his car and chased them man tackling him to the ground.

Other witnesses said they also assisted and when a police officer arrived, he stated the Good Samaritans had the suspect on the ground holding him down.

Shuford was arrested and charged with strong arm robbery and battery on a person 65 or older.
