Two Charged After Coral Gables Officer's Patrol Car Hit By Gunfire

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Coral Gables police officer narrowly escaped injured after her patrol car was hit by gunfire early Sunday morning near Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.

The shooting happened just before 6 a.m. in the area of Old Cutler Road and Sierra Circle.

The officer was able to capture a suspect. Officers from Miami-Dade police and South Miami police assisted Coral Gables officers in setting up a perimeter to catch two additional suspects. Miami-Dade police sent up a helicopter to assist in the search.

After several hours, two others were taken into custody.

Police said two of those questioned have been charged. Emilio Estevez, 25, was charged with discharging a firearm in public and use of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol. Shyam Zaveri, 25, was charged with discharge of a firearm in public.
