ESTERO (CBSMiami/AP) — A Naples area church is offering a drive-thru prayer service.
Wednesday night about about a half-dozen members of the Estero United Methodist Church donned bright orange safety vests and offered up some spiritual fulfillment for motorists along U.S. 41.
John Halley, who serves as the church’s director of discipleship, says it’s a way of offering support to people who need spiritual help. He says the idea is simply to provide a service, not to boost the church’s membership.
Estero resident Nick Nataro said the idea of drive-thru prayer is a “godsend for time-strapped people.”
The group offers blessings every Wednesday, starting at 5 p.m. Halley says the numbers of motorist varies weekly, sometimes reaching 6 to 8.
