Elderly Man Hospitalized After Hit & Run Accident

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An elderly man with Alzheimer's is in critical condition after a hit and run accident.

Seventy five year old Paul Louis' family said he left to go the store at around 8 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck and left for dead just around the corner from his house.

"I just open the door. I see he's on the floor, he don't say nothing," said the victim's wife Marie Nicole Louis, in tears. She said she thought her husband of thirty years was dead.

"My son, he tried to help him," Louis.

Miami-Dade police said a white minivan hit Louis as he crossed NE 14th Avenue at 145th Street in northeast Miami-Dade. The driver did not stop. Louis was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.

"He's in terrible condition," said his wife.

"It is heart wrenching," said Louis' niece Tabitha Luc. "But when you see my aunt crying like this, you can't break down and cry, you have to be strong for your family and hope to find answers."

Louis family said Paul has Alzheimer's and is a cancer survivor. They want whoever is responsible, caught.

"He's had Alzheimer's, he's had cancer, but he's powered through all of these things," said Luc. "All we can do is hope someone will come out and speak on our behalf and try to find some information that will tie the 'perp' to the crime."

The white minivan was last seen headed south on NE 14th Avenue. Anyone with information can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
