Heat's Erik Spoelstra Named Coach Of The Month

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The NBA announced Monday that Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra was named the Eastern Conference Coach of the month after the Heat put together a league-best 9-1 record during February.

Spoelstra's Heat team's record in February was the 26th consecutive month with a winning record. The Heat did the damage while spending much of the month on the road. Miami was 6-1 on the road in February including five wins against teams that would currently qualify for the Western Conference playoffs.

The Heat's defense also caught fire in February holding opponents to under 50 percent shooting from the field through the month and under 40 percent three times in the month. Overall, Miami is 42-14 on the season, tying the franchise's record for the best record through the first 56 games of a season.

Miami is still 2.5 games behind the Indiana Pacers for home court advantage in the Eastern Conference playoffs. But, Miami's seven-straight victories is increasing the pressure on Indiana to keep pace with the Heat instead of the other way around.
