LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) — A one and a half-year old boy is in critical condition after he nearly drowned in a pool in Lauderhill on Saturday.

The toddler’s grandmother said her family is praying and holding out hope that her grandson, Tylib, pulls through.

“I am just devastated,” she said, explaining this was all a tragic accident,” said his grandmother. “The best parents in the world, my son is a terrific father and terrific husband and his wife is great, they love their baby, their children.”

According to Lauderhill police, the toddler ended up in the pool of his home around 5:00 p.m.

“There was a mother and father that were inside the house,” said Lt. Greg Solowsky with the Lauderhill Police Department. “The mother believed that the child was with the father, the father believed the child was with the mother.”

Investigators believe the boy opened a sliding glass door and walked out to the backyard. He saw keys at the bottom of the pool and tried to get them.

“Saw something at the bottom of the pool, we think it may have been some keys, the child tried to retrieve the keys fell in the pool,” said Lt. Solowsky.

It’s unclear how long the toddler was in the water before family members found him.

Neighbors say the child was in diapers as he was put into an ambulance and rushed to the hospital.

“Very sad,” said neighbor Ulysses Merriweather. “I can’t even imagine.”

“It could happen to anybody,” said neighbor Trevor Weeks. “My prayers go out to them.”

The child was at Coral Springs Medical Center but has been transferred to Broward Health Medical Center.
