Pups Join Paddleboaders & Kayakers In Florida Keys

KEY LARGO (CBSMiami/FKNB) -- A group of shelter dogs, up for adoption, joined other dog owners and their pets on paddleboards and kayaks during a "Paddlin" & Pups event in the Florida Keys on Saturday evening.

The almost-monthly bayside gathering in Key Largo is organized to share water recreation activities in the Keys for people with four-legged companions, encourage them to get out and be active on the water together, as well as raise animal rescue awareness and facilitate dog adoptions to "fur-ever" homes.

The evening paddle with pups is co-sponsored by Key Largo's MarrVelous Pet Rescues & Adoptions, and Florida Bay Outfitters Kayak & Canoe Center.

Organizers say that it's a great way for people to come and visit, learn what they can do on the water with their dog, and it also brings awareness to MarrVelous Pet Rescues and how people can help.

Anyone from beginner to expert paddler can participate and enjoy a couple relaxing hours before sunset on paddleboards or kayaks with their dog companion.
