Fla. Gov. To Press President Over Flood Insurance
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott is planning to use a scheduled meeting with President Barack Obama to urge him to halt flood insurance hikes.
The nation's governors are scheduled to meet with Obama on Monday.
The Scott administration says the Republican governor will personally ask Obama to block flood insurance hikes required under a new law intended to end federal subsidies.
Congress has been debating whether to change the 2012 overhaul of the federal flood insurance program, but so far no agreement has been reached.
Scott has previously asked U.S. House Speaker John Boehner to take action. He has also requested a meeting with Obama to discuss the issue.
The flood insurance overhaul has impacted Florida homeowners, especially those in coastal areas like Pinellas County.
