MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The U.S. Attorney for the southern District of Florida and the FBI announced the indictment of eight people for participating in a narcotics-trafficking conspiracy.

Some of the defendants were also charged with several offenses involving firearms.

Officials charged Espere Desmond Pierre, 32; Markentz Blanc, 32; Meluin Jermaine Braynen, 19; Willis Maxi, 33; Wisvelt Voltaire, 32; Alex Bermudez, 24; Sanders Bermudez, 22; and Kervens Lalanne, 22, all of Miami.

The indictment states that the defendants were part of a large-scale crack cocaine distribution through retail locations in Little Haiti and Miami.

According to officials, Pierre and Blanc also had identity information of more than 1,000 people and allegedly used numerous false and fraudulent tax returns to claim tax refunds that they were not entitled to use.
