One Person Injured In Police Involved Shooting In North Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Miami-Dade officer was forced to fire after confronting a burglary suspect early Monday morning.

Around 3:30 a.m. Miami-Dade and North Miami police were called to 1595 NE 135th Street concerning a burglary in progress.

Arriving officers spotted a "person acting suspicious," according to police and gave chase. At one point the suspect was able to get onto the roof of a residence at 1520 NE 137th Street.

"The subject climbed the roof of one of the homes. The officers followed. There was an altercation and shots were fired," said Miami-Dade police spokeswoman Det. Elena Hernandez.

Police say the suspect was shot in the shoulder.

The injured person was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center.

The early morning commotion frightened some neighbors in the area.

"I was nervous because there were all these police officers and news trucks, I have never seen this before," said Andy Adams.
