Miami Beach Launches Free Trolley Service Monday

MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – Miami Beach city officials are trying to make it easier for residents and visitors alike to get to the businesses on Alton Road and West Avenue during all the road construction.

Beginning Monday, the city will launch a new, free trolley transportation service for Alton Road and West Avenue on Monday that will operate through the end of construction in 2015.

The Alton/West Loop trolleys will travel from Fifth Street to Lincoln Road, along Alton Road and West Avenue, with 20 stops along the way. The free service will run approximately every 10 minutes from 8 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Sunday. The trolley has a capacity of 25 passengers and has an external bike rack and will soon have free WiFi.

The trolley service is accessible from several parking facilities along the way.

For instance, drivers can park the Fifth & Alton Garage, where parking will be free for up to four hours with the use of the trolley voucher.

Also, a pilot valet parking service will begin soon on 11th Street between Alton Road and West Avenue at $5.00 for up to three hours and $8.00 for up to six hours.
