Lopez-Cantera To Be Sworn In Monday As Lt. Governor

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - Former Miami-Dade Property Appraiser Carlos Lopez-Cantera will be sworn in as lieutenant governor on Monday.

Lopez-Cantera is the first person to hold that post in almost 11 months.

Lopez-Cantera, who was chosen for the position earlier this month by Gov. Rick Scott, will officially be sworn in at a 5 p.m. ceremony in the House chamber.

The former House Majority Leader, who was elected property appraiser after leaving the House, replaces former Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll, who resigned amid reports that a company she co-owned did some consulting work for an organization at the center of an illegal gambling probe. Carroll, whose company did the work before she became lieutenant governor, was never charged with any wrongdoing.

Lopez-Cantera is believed to be Florida's first Hispanic lieutenant governor.
