Man In Custody After Running Over Person With ATV

MIAMI (CBSMiami) --  Miami-Dade police placed one man in custody after he allegedly ran over another person with an all terrain vehicle on Saturday.

Police arrested Terrance Frederick, 41, after he allegedly ran over a person, injured a firefighter, and tried running away.

According to police, a group of ATVs were driving together. One of the ATV drivers got into an accident at NW 133 Street and 22 Avenue. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene as well as police.

When police arrived, the people on the ATVs tried to take off since, in Florida, it is illegal to drive ATVs on the streets.

The ATV Frederick was driving would not start, but when police were going to apprehend the him, it started and he took off.

Police said Frederick then lost control and ran over the injured ATV driver being treated by fire rescue.  In the process, he also hit one of the attending firefighters and later took off on foot. He was later caught.

The injured ATV driver, described as an adult male, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. No word on his condition.

Police said the injured firefighter is expected to be okay.

Frederick faces multiple charges for fleeing, resisting, aggravated battery with a vehicle, among others.
