Report: Amazon Prime May Be Increasing Price

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Amazon Prime members may be about to shell out a lot more money for access to the membership system that helps streamline ordering and improves shipping speed.

According to the Huffington Post, Amazon said late Thursday that the yearly subscription price for the service may increase between $20 and $40 in the United States. The current yearly price for Amazon Prime is $79.

The company has kept the price at $79 for nearly a decade when the service first launched. According to the Huffington Post, the company indicated rising fuel and shipping costs were part of the reason for the potential price increase.

Amazon Prime allows users two-day shipping on more than 19 million items, access to Amazon Prime Instant Video, and a digital library for the Kindle.

Amazon, according to the Huff Post, hasn't disclosed how many members Prime has, but it's estimated in the tens of millions.
