Margate Toddler Who Fell Into Pool Has Died

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A Margate toddler rushed to the hospital after she was pulled from the family's pool has died.

Ft. Lauderdale police said 16-month old Savita Curtis passed away Wednesday at Plantation General.

Savita's grandmother Sabita Rahim said she was taking a nap late Wednesday morning and thinks her daughter may have dozed off while taking care of another child, a one month old. She said Savita slipped out through a sliding glass door at the rear of their home at 6122 Southgate Boulevard. It was Savita's mother who found her and pulled her out of the pool.

"She screamed, I ran outside and saw the baby in her hand. It's a terrifying scene, a baby found face down in the family pool with no signs of life," said Rahim. "She said mommy take the baby from me. When I blew into her mouth I could hear some bubbling but I didn't see her regaining consciousness, I didn't see anything."

Margate Fire Rescue paramedics started CPR and took the child to Northwest Medical Center. She was then transferred to Plantation General where she died.
