Suspect In Custody In Connection With Murder Of Canadian Tourist

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – A man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Canadian tourist has turned himself in, according to police.

Hollywood Police released a picture of 37-year-old Twane Dobard, also known as "Gonzo," Monday afternoon.

Dobard, according to police, turned himself in at approximately 9 PM Monday evening at the Hallandale Beach Police Department.

He is currently being questioned by detectives.

Police had an arrest warrant out for Dobard in connection with the death of Domenico Perruccio, 58, a Canadian resident.

Perruccio was staying with a friend at the Winter Haven Towers on Jefferson Street, which was the street where he was found.

Police said they received a call around 4:30 a.m. about a body on a sidewalk along Jefferson Street just east of Federal Highway. The body showed signs of trauma.

Some neighbors awoke to the sound of a struggle. "There was like fighting or something screaming and after the cry, oh, oh cry like this you know," said a neighbor named Jenny who asked CBS4 to not use her last name.

"At this moment the cause of death is unknown or undetermined, but it is an obvious homicide," said Lt. Perez.

Neighbors said Perruccio was stabbed.

Perruccio's neighbors said he was actually Italian and his family moved to Canada when he was 15-years-old.

"It is so sad" said Sue Johnson who added that she saw Peruccio just hours before he was killed.

Neighbors said Peruccio was waiting for his wife to arrive in South Florida because the couple was supposed to go on a cruise.

"Right now at this moment it's scary when you live in the building where someone was killed right in front of the building" said Johnson.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
