Man Charged In 79th Street Causeway Crash

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Beach police have filed charges against a man who they say was involved in a deadly accident on the 79th Street Causeway last year.

According to witnesses, a white U-Haul Ford F 250 van was speeding westbound on 71st Street last April, weaving in and out of traffic and passing other vehicles as they slowed for a red light. The driver of the van was later identified as 53-year old Victor Pomier.

When the van reached West Bridge in the 2300 block, it slammed into a 2001 Buick Century which had stopped at the light, according to Pomier's arrest warrant.

The driver of the Buick and his father, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center. The driver's mother and passenger's wife, 67-year old Francisca Arguelles San Martin, who was sitting in the back seat was killed in the crash.

Miami Beach police were able to retrieve the van's 'black box' and allegedly determined that Pomier was doing 50.3 mph in a 30 mph zone when he slammed into the Buick.

Pomier, who was arrested Monday, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving with a revoked license which resulted in a death. His bond has been set at $30,000.
