Teaching Aides Charged In Classroom Brawl

KISSIMMEE (AP) — A classroom brawl ended with a pair teacher's aides being charged.

The fight happened January 9th in a classroom for emotionally disturbed students at Discovery Intermediate School in Kissimmee.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says chairs were thrown during the brawl and students' videos that captured the fight showed one student kicking another.

The two teaching aides were charged with child neglect because they failed to stop the fight or call for assistance, even though they had access to phones and radios.

Three students have also been charged with aggravated battery.

School district officials said the aides have been removed from the classroom and may be suspended without pay. A sheriff's office spokeswoman says neither of the aides is cooperating with investigators.
