Dolphins QB Wife Leaves Rifle In Rental Car

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) — The wife of Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill rented an SUV in South Florida, returned it shortly after but left a rifle in the back of the car, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.

According to a BSO report obtained by CBS 4 News on Wednesday, Lauren Tannehill rented a Nissan Rogue from EZ Rental Car at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in the afternoon on January 4. She returned about two hours later to swap the Rogue for a different car, but authorities say she left behind an LMT AR-15, which was secured in a case.

That same night, the car was rented to another woman, who found the gun and contacted EZ Rental Car. Employees told her to turn it over to police, which she did.

BSO says Tannehill did not break any laws.

"A rifle is certainly not the type of item that you want to forget but forgetting it is not a crime," said BSO Spokesperson Keyla Concepcion.

The woman who rented the car, Judith Fleissig, told CBS 4 that her daughter saw the bag in the back of the car and wondered what to do with it.

"She unzipped it and saw a gun and we were like, 'Oh my God! A gun,'" Fleissig told CBS 4's Carey Codd.

Fleissig said the discovery was unexpected.

"It kinda freaked us out a little because who expects to find a gun in their car," she said.

The woman and her daughter called the rental car company and turned the rifle over to a nearby police department.

On her Twitter page Lauren Tannenhill has a picture of her and her husband shooting rifles. There is also a picture of Tannehill shooting a handgun.

The woman who found the rifle in the car is just glad the rifle didn't end up in the wrong hands.

CBS 4 News was unable to reach the Tannehill's for a comment.
