Burglars Target Pharmacy In Lauderhill Medical Plaza

LAUDERHILL (CBSMiami) – Surveillance cameras captured an early morning burglary of a pharmacy in Lauderhill.

It happened sometime between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6th, inside the center at 4300 N University Drive.

Tenants of the building include the Strax Rejuvenation and several doctors.

Lauderhill police said two men entered the building by breaking a window on the buildings second floor.

On the surveillance recording, two men are seen trying to break into the pharmacy's door and service window.

"They took their time and they tried as much methods as they could to get inside there," said police spokesman Mike Butkus.

They eventually broke through the door to enter the pharmacy and used a pry bar to open the rolling security door to get to the drugs.

Police said approximately 5,300 pills were stolen; they had a street value in excess of $100,000.

"They are now out on the street.  That definitely poses a danger to our community as well as surrounding communities," said Butkus.

The pharmacy is owned Executive pharmacy, an independent company which dispenses prescriptions for patients who see doctors in the building.

"Whether it's the pharmacy here or the restaurant down the road, you know we'd like to see these people apprehended," said Jeff Davis who works for a surgery center in the building.

"From what I understand from talking to the people in the pharmacy, the controlled substances, the percocet, the pain medications, the controlled substances were locked in a different area and they did not get those controlled substances," said Davis.

The actually theft was not on the recording because the burglars unplugged the DVR.

"We're asking for anyone in the community who has any information as to who they are to contact either Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS or the Lauderhill Police Department at (954) 497-4700," said Butkus.
