MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Sure South Florida may have experienced near-record heat two days into the New Year, but other parts of the country are dealing with some serious winter weather—which is affecting flights all around the country.

An update at 9 p.m. from Miami International Airport stated there were still 33 delays (30 arrivals and three departure) and 16 cancellations (three arrivals and 13 departures).

Airlines affected included American Airlines, American Eagle Delta and United while the cities affected included Norfolk, Atlanta, Newark, Hartford, Chicago, Boston, St. Louis, New York, Denver, Detroit, Houston and Toronto.

Those arriving or departing from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport may also experience cancellations or delays.

As of Thursday night, there have been a total of 111 flight delays, 44 departure cancellations and 11 arrival cancellations.

Anyone travelling to or from the Midwest of Northeast Thursday or Friday should check with the airline on the status of their flight.

Several carriers, according to FLL, have implemented programs to waive change fees for travelers who want to re-book their flights to any of the impacted destinations.

Express Jet, as of Thursday afternoon, has canceled a total of 455 flights, American Eagle 232 and United Airlines 154 flights were canceled.

Across the nation, more than 1,600 flights were cancelled and 2,600 delayed Thursday morning.

Those planning on picking someone up, or that have a trip planned, may want to check the status of the flights.
