Man Falls From Miami Construction Site

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A construction worker is fighting for his life Sunday after suffering a head injury while working at a Miami condo project.

According to police, the 27-year-old fell about 20 feet down at the site located at  NE 2 Ave and 25th Street.

Fire rescue says the worker was wearing a safety harness and helmet when he fell but  he had just unhooked from the safety cable when he lost his footing and his helmet.

"I heard this loud 'pham' you know it echos throughout everything and all the construction workers stopped," said Jack Ridges, a witness.

"Somehow or another, he slipped and fell about 15 to 20 feet," said Lt. Ignatius Carroll of Miami Fire Rescue.

According to fire rescue, he landed on another floor where his co-workers said he wasn't moving. He sustained a serious head injury.

The victim had to be taken away in a stokes basket since there are no elevators at the site.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration is sending investigators to the building to the site.
