Woman Struck While Pushing Stroller Across Sunrise Road

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) - A woman was killed, and her two young grandchildren children injured, after they were struck by a car on Christmas.

The woman, who police identified as 61-year old Li Fang Dong, was pushing a stroller with the children inside across Pine Island Road near Sunset Strip when she was struck around 7 p.m.  Wednesday.  Police said the two children in stroller who were cousins, ages one and two.

The 23-year old driver, who was traveling southbound on Pine Island Road at the time of the accident, stayed on the scene and waited for police.

One of the children was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center. Li Fang Dong died at the hospital; the two children remain in the intensive care unit with serious injuries.

Neighbors say the family had only lived in Sunrise a short time, still they say the tragedy has hit the neighborhood hard.

"I was in shock. I was stunned I was like something happened around Christmas,"said neighbor Randy Ramjeet, adding, "The first thing I thought of was my kids and how thankful I am that we're all together and we're healthy and how at any minute something as tragic as this could happen."

Investigators said early indications are that Li Fang Dong may have left the pedestrian crosswalk while trying to cross the road.

No charges are expected at this time for the driver.
