Coral Springs Man Accused Of Beating 4-Month-Old Puppy

CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) - A Coral Springs man was arrested and charged with animal cruelty after police say he hit his puppy in the face and threw him against the wall.

The alleged abuse was prompted when the four-month-old puppy bit 26-year-old Juan Florez's finger.

Florez, 26, is accused of hitting the German Shepherd pup, named Toby, in the face with his hand.

Florez, according to the arrest form, then picked up the dog, who again bit his finger, to which he reacted by allegedly throwing him against the wall.

When officers arrived at the apartment, they observed blood spattered inside the apartment.

The dog was transported to the Coral Springs Animal Hospital. The vet, according to the arrest form, observed the dog with several injuries including a swollen muzzle, left eye hemorrhage, bruised groin, inflammation in the head and more. The puppy also had a fractured cheek bone and an old fracture to the other cheek bone and pelvis area.

Florez remains in jail but Toby the puppy, however, is no longer in the hospital, doing a lot better, and has been placed with a family, said Shane Gardner of the animal hospital.
