MIAMI (CBSMiami) — While police are on the search for the two culprits who beat up an elderly couple outside their Northwest Miami home, the wife is recovering from brain surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to her son.

Her son, Jesus Alvarez Junior said his mother, Miriam Alvarez, 68, is stable after undergoing surgery Friday.

Meanwhile, police are still on the hunt for the two men.

Surveillance cameras caught part of the crime. They were rolling outside the home of Jesus Alvarez senior  when he came home on December 7.

As he went to close the gates to his Northwest Miami home the cameras show a man attacking him from behind, punching him and then seconds later a second man walks up.

Jesus Junior said the beating went on for 10 minutes and his father was bound, gagged, and robbed of at least $700 dollars.

“They hit him mainly on the face,” said Alvarez Jr.

Surveillance cameras show the thieves walking into the house then walking out.

A short time later Miriam Alvarez walked outside to see what’s going on and the cameras capture her being hit as well.

“They punched her once. they punched her in the face and she lost consciousness and fell back and hit her like a pinball,” said Alvarez Jr.

Jesus Junior said his father has owned several businesses in the past and is well-known and well liked in the community. No one can understand why anyone would attack his father and mother.

“I don’t know what to do. If somebody hears something or knows something, think about your mom and dad,” said Alvarez Jr.

Alvarez Jr. said his 97-year old grandfather was also in the house at the time of the attack. He was not hurt.
