Mega Millions Hits Mega Jackpot Of $400 Million

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Want to test your luck? How about purchasing a Mega Millions ticket for Friday the 13th's drawing for your chance at the mega jackpot of $400 million—the largest it's ever been since Florida joined the game.

Mega Millions, the Sun Sentinel reports, is at its largest jackpot since the Sunshine State joined the game in May. The game's all-time record is $656 million, which was set in 2012.

The $400 million jackpot is the fifth-largest ever in North America.

If one ticket matches all six numbers, the winner will have the choice of receiving the full jackpot in 30 annual payments, or a cash option of approximately $216.4 million before taxes.

As of now, there has only been one Friday the 13th winner, a day of superstitions for many, since March 13, 2009. A $26 million jackpot was awarded to Isabel Zelaya of Suffolk County, N.Y., according to the paper.

Want a look at your chances? According to the Mega Millions website, the odds of winning the jackpot are approximately one in 259 million. The odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are approximately 1 in 15.

The odds may seem against you, but what do you have to lose? Except maybe the dollar used to purchase the ticket.
