Attempted Bank Robber Claiming To Have Bomb Shot By BSO Deputies
South Florida Crime
DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) – A man claiming to have a bomb inside a Dania Beach bank was shot and wounded by BSO deputies on Friday.
According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, said they received calls about an attempted robbery at a Chase bank, located at 300 East Dania Beach Blvd. shortly before noon.
In video from Chopper 4, police were seen surrounding the bank with guns drawn and a man could be seen on the ground in the front of the building.
BSO confirmed deputies who arrived on the scene first did shoot the suspect.
A CBS4 photographer on the scene spoke to a witness who said he heard gunshots. The witness also said police told him to stay away from the bank because a man had a bomb.
The man, who authorities confirm is 49-years-old, did survive and he was eventually handcuffed and put on a stretcher to be taken for medical treatment.
“Our bomb squad was able to cut the device from the subject which allowed us to immediately have our fire department transport the subject to Broward Health Medical Center,” said Broward Sheriff Scott Israel.
The suspect’s condition is not known, but, according to the Sheriff, he did have surgery.
The suspect, authorities said, did manage to get money from the teller, but it was recovered outside.
No hostages were taken and nobody else was hurt.
