Gov. Scott Opens Campaign Account For Re-Election Run

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - It was all about the 'green' Tuesday for Governor Rick Scott.

Not only did he and First Lady Ann Scott participate in the ceremonial lighting of the official 2013 Cabinet Christmas tree, Scott also opened his campaign account to run for re-election in 2014.

The long-anticipated move will provide another avenue to raise millions of dollars for one of the nation's highest-profile gubernatorial races.

A political committee closely aligned with Scott's campaign --- the "Let's Get to Work" committee – has already raised about $19.8 million this year. Under a new law, Scott will be able to collect individual contributions up to $3,000 for his campaign account. Previously, candidates were limited to $500 contributions.

"Let's Get to Work" does not face such limits.

Scott opened the account as candidates and committees faced a Tuesday deadline for filing November finance reports.
