South Florida Can Expect Chilly Start To Turkey Day

DORAL (CBSMiami) - The Thanksgiving holiday weekend has gotten off to a messy and wet start Wednesday across much of South Florida. The rain is in front of a strong cold front that will usher in a steep drop in the temperature Wednesday night.

Ahead of the front, the rain has been persistent overnight and throughout the morning. Some spots have seen close to two inches of rain. Roads are drenched and dangerous. And when it hasn't been raining, it has been a mostly cloudy morning.

Most of the showers are starting to push to the East and offshore. There could be a few more showers before the front sweeps through and then the area will see some clearing and improvement later Wednesday afternoon.

By Wednesday evening, with the drier air settling in; it will feel less humid and much more comfortable.

The mercury will really plummet Wednesday night into Thursday morning as lows fall into the 50's! The average low for November in Miami is 67 degrees.

On Thanksgiving Day, it will feel much more like fall and the holiday season. The area will see cooler, breezy, and mostly sunny weather with highs struggling into the low 70s.

For folks getting up early on Friday to take advantage of Black Friday deals; the area will still be cool with lows in the 60's. Highs will start to rebound and warm to the upper 70's Friday afternoon.

And by this weekend, the weather will be windy and warmer with highs near 80 degrees and the chance for some showers on the breeze.
