Arrest Made In North Dade Park Robbery In Which Girl Was Shot
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – One person has been charged in a robbery Tuesday evening in a north Miami-Dade park in which a nine year old girl was shot in the leg.
"It appears she was an innocent bystander at the time the robbery occurred," said Miami-Dade police Detective Robin Pinkard.
Officers were sent to Oak Grove Park, 690 NE 159th Street, around 6:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a robbery and gunfire. When they arrived they found Vaillant Ricquina, 9, who had been shot.
"She was wounded in the leg. She is in stable condition at Joe Dimaggio Hospital," said Pinkard.
Pinkard said the officers also found Jacques Noel, 46, in a park who said he had been robbed. Noel said he was sitting on a park bench when two males walked up to him and one pulled a gun. He said the other male, later identified as 19-year old Vladimir Corrierus, told him to hand over his phone and cash or else they would shoot him.
Noel said he gave them his phone and then they went through his pockets and stole $15 in cash and set of keys. When they ran off, Corrierus' partner in crime fired four shots at Noel, according to Corrieu' arrest report.
The shots missed him, but hit Ricquina who was walking through the park with friends.
Corrierus and the other male ran into a nearby apartment complex to hide from police.
Police said anonymous source told them that one of the men involved in the robbery was Corrierus, known around the neighborhood as "Pablo," and then gave them his address. When police went to the apartment at the address given, they found Corrierus hiding in a closet under a pilot of clothes.
During questioning, Corrierus "waived his rights and placed himself and another unknown person "Ziggy' at the park and on the bench where the robbery took place," according to the police report.
Corrierus was charged with armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated battery.
