Wounded Father Of 10-Year-Old Child Murdered At Nail Salon Speaks Out

MIAMI(CBSMiami) - The wounded father of a 10-year-old child who was shot and killed at the family's nail salon last Friday night is speaking out, raising questions about the shooting.

"The question I ask every night while I am in the hospital is why, why, why did this have to happen," said 42-year-old Hai Nam Vu, whose son Aaron Vu lost his life when robbers burst into the salon in Northwest Miami-Dade and fired several shots.

Vu, who was wounded in the left shoulder in the shooting and spoke while sitting in a wheelchair at the Ryder Trauma Center, said, "Why couldn't this have been me. They killed an innocent child."

Vu felt compelled to speak out his son and was taken from the Hospital's intensive care unit where he's been recovering to the news conference.

Vu told CBS4's Peter D'Oench, "I hope my son's death will not be in vain and that something comes out of this and in future will greatly reduce the senseless acts of violence in our community."

"No family should have to go through such pain," he said. "No family should have to go through what our family went through."

It was the first time that VU had spoken since the killers were captured on surveillance tape, bursting in to the Hong Kong nail salon on Northwest 7th Avenue and 143rd Street.

Vu also thanked the community and his family and police for their support.

"I'd like to thank the community and schools and churches for their support and my family," he said. "I would like to thank law enforcement agencies and Miami-Dade police for their support and their work to find justice for my loving son Aaron. I especially want to thank my family and friends for their love and support."

Aaron Vu's loved ones also told D'Oench that they are grateful that a person of interest is being interviewed by Miami-Dade Police and they say they appreciate the calls to Miami-Dade Crimestoppers and hope they will continue to come in.
