Fake Pilot Arrested In Florida Keys

KEY WEST (CBSMiami/AP) — A man with a fake license has been arrested in the Florida Keys but it wasn't a fake drivers license that got this guy in trouble with the law but a fake pilot's license.

Authorities in the Florida Keys say John Walsh was flying customers in an unregistered plane.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office Director of Aviation Brooks Bateman said the light sport aircraft belonging to John Walsh of Marathon was "falling apart due to saltwater exposure."

Bateman told The Key West Citizen that Walsh showed investigators a fake pilot's license and was actively advertising for customers on the social networking site Facebook.

Walsh was charged Tuesday with felony possession of an unregistered aircraft and felony operation of an aircraft in a careless or reckless manner. Sheriff Rick Ramsay said additional charges may be pending.

Walsh posted $10,000 bond Tuesday. Jail records did not show whether he was represented by an attorney.

The Federal Aviation Administration also is investigating.
