SC State Edges Florida A&M 25-21

ORANGEBURG (AP) — Richard Cue ran for one score and threw for another and South Carolina State won 25-21 when Florida A&M University fumbled the ball away on the game's final drive.

Cue was 13 of 25 for 186 yards passing, including a 28-yard TD pass to Dennis Roe. Mariel Cooper returned a punt 25 yards for a score for the Bulldogs (7-3, 5-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic conference).

The Ratttlers led 21-20 at the half on scoring runs by James Owens and Lemond Buice and an 8-yard pass from Carson Royal to Casey Glines, but could score no more.

Nick Belcher kicked a 26-yard field goal in the third quarter and a 28-yarder in the fourth to give SC State a 25-21 edge. The Rattlers (3-7, 2-4, MEAC) were threatening in the final seconds when they fumbled the ball away.

It was the teams' 55th meeting, with the Rattlers leading the series 31-22-2.

The first quarter ended without points for Houston, ending a streak of 39 straight quarters with points.
