FIU Holds Off Kennesaw State 66-58

KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) — Rakeem Buckles scored 20 points and hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds and Florida International held off a late Kennesaw State rally to win 66-58 Sunday.

The Golden Panthers (1-2) shot 42.6 percent from the field and had four starters score in double figures. The game was closely contested until FIU used a 14-4 run to hold a 57-46 advantage with less than six minutes remaining.

The Owls (0-3) eyed a late rally, cutting the deficit to four with 1:25 remaining on two baskets by Orlando Coleman.

FIU responded with a 3-point dagger from Raymond Taylor and Tymell Murphy hit a late free throw to seal the win.

Taylor finished with 15 points and five assists. Jerome Frink scored 13 for the Golden Panthers and Murphy added 12.

Delbert Love led Kennesaw State with a game-high 24 points and Bernard Morena had 10 with eight boards.
