Army Surgical Team Learning At Ryder Trauma Center

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An Army surgical team that needed to hone its trauma skills came to Ryder Trauma Center to learn from some of the best.

The 909th Army Forward Surgical Team from Fort Sheridan, Ill., is currently training at Ryder Trauma Center. The training program includes lectures, simulations, clinical rotations and a 48-hour stint providing care for each patient brought into the trauma center.

Once their training is completed, the 22-member surgical team is scheduled to deploy overseas.

The team will perform a trauma simulation Friday, picking up a mock patient on the hospital's helipad.

The simulation is part of a Veterans Day observance at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center.

Ryder is one of the busiest trauma centers in the nation. The Army has sent surgical teams to Miami for training for more than a decade.
