Keys Cat Gets In Over His Head

KEY LARGO (CBSMiami/FKNB) --  Animal Shelter staff had a jarring experience trying to remove a jar which was stuck on a Key Largo cat's head.

The black and white feline  was spotted October 24 near the Tradewinds Apartments off mile marker 101.4.

The cat eluded capture for over a week by running under a fence and into a wooded area, according to the Key Largo Animal Shelter Manager Marsha Garrettson who said it may have been a case of "dumpster diving gone bad."

The cat was finally rescued on Halloween by Garrettson.

"We were able to humanely remove the jar and medically treat him for dehydration and malnutrition," Garrettson said." The cat now sits on my lap and purrs. He has a good appetite and seems to be normal, despite his ordeal."
