Va. Man Visiting For Georgia-Florida Game Drowns

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — A man, while visiting Jacksonville for the Georgia-Florida football game, drowned in pond.

A 31-year-old, from Virginia, died Friday after slipping into a pond, authorities said.

The man's name was not immediately released.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office tells The Florida Times-Union (http://bit.ly/16vOVL9 ) that the 31-year-old man died Friday night after slipping into a pond.

According to the sheriff's office, the man was out with friends in the city late Friday. The group went to a restaurant near their hotel. It was raining when they left the restaurant, so they attempted to run to the hotel.

Authorities say that's when the man accidentally slipped into the pond. The sheriff's office says the man could not swim, and he drowned. His friends also could not swim, so they called the sheriff's office for help.

Georgia and Florida played Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville.
