Pinecrest Police Officer Accused Of Sex With Teen Girl

PINECREST (CBSMiami) – A Pinecrest police officer was arrested Friday for allegedly having sex with a 16-year old not one, but allegedly 4 times.

Officer Kevin Mckenzie, 38, appeared in bond court today.

He was taken into custody after midnight by Miami-Dade police.

The Pinecrest Police Department said McKenzie has been charged with four counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

"She was a witness in a case he was investigating. She would come over to his home and engage in sex acts," said Special Prosecutor Laura Adams. "She indicated that she might be pregnant and he said she should not have the baby or he would wind up in jail or in prison and he would rather die than have that happen."

According to the police report, the incident came to light when the teen told her mother.

McKenzie is a 13-year veteran of the department.

An officer who worked with McKenzie said the situation is saddening.

"Here at the Pinecrest Police Department we have very high standards. Not just for our agency but for our officers, we are very saddened by the news, it has affected all of us that one of our officers was arrested for any reason,"said Detective Alexandra Martinez.

McKenzie is being held on a $200,000 bond plus house arrest. The judge issued a stay away order for the victim and her family.

The officer has been relieved of duty without pay. Chief Samuel Ceballos, Jr. will recommend dismissal to the Village Manager.
