MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Northwestern High school has picked up a victory over Glades Central High School without taking the field Friday.
The game scheduled for Friday night between Glades and Miami Northwestern has been canceled “due to gang violence in the area.”
The Palm Beach County School Police confirmed to CBSMiami.com that the game has in fact been canceled. The game had been scheduled to take place in Belle Glade, Florida.
According to Palm Beach County Schools Communication Manager Owen Torres, a gang-related incident Thursday night near Glades Central, plus a few other gang-related activities in the area, were the catalyst’s to the game being canceled.
“Our main priority is the safety of our students and the fans as well,” Torres told CBSMiami.com.
Glades Central forfeits the game and will see its record drop to 3-5 on the season. Northwestern will pick up an automatic victory and move to 4-4 on the season.
According to Torres, all other games in Palm Beach County are still scheduled to go forward.
